The photographer took this picture to illustrate the moulted feathers within the wing coverts and within the tertials. This advanced state of moult is a good feature to separate Yellow-legged Gulls from Herring Gulls in their first year.

Der Photograph möchte mit diesem Bild die gemauserten Federn sowohl in den Flügeldecken als auch in den Schirmfedern illustrieren. Dieser fortgeschrittene Mauserzustand ist ein gutes Merkmal um Mittelmeermöwen in ihrem ersten Lebensjahr von Silbermöwen zu unterscheiden.
